Clinical Nutrition

What is Clinical Nutrition?

Every day we put 1-2 kilos of organic matter into our mouths. What happens then is what clinical nutritionists are interested in. “Clinical nutrition is the study of the relationship between food and a healthy you” – or (to be a little more technical) how nutrients are digested, absorbed, transported, stored and eliminated by the body.

What's it good for?

What we eat impacts hugely on our risk of developing major chronic diseases - heart disease, obesity, cancer and diabetes. Managing diet can help treat and prevent these conditions. You already know the drill: More whole grains and less “bad” fats to reduce the risk of heart attack or stroke.  Fewer calories to help you lose weight. More fibre and fewer simple sugars to ward off diabetes. “But often the devil is in the detail, and it's in the putting-into-practice where we all fall down”. Whether your idea of a balanced diet consists of equal amounts from all the major fat groups, or you think you already have a fairly healthy diet but know you can do better, a professional clinical nutritionist can help.
